I really like the rustic feel of this film, it sets the tone. The camera angles for some reason makes the women seem very poor - which she obviously is. I felt like as a mother, she was just very disappointed in herself. She still longs to be someone without children - yet has 4 and a lot of responsibilities. Her priorities are very out of wack. She hardly has any food to feel her kids, and what she has is moldy. So she feeds her kids scum then spends all her money on impressing some man she used to know.. What a winner.
Fantastic film. Makes you appreciate what you have

  2. I thought that the director did very well in creating a constant world which conveyed a very gritty and almost ultra-realistic tone in that the story is something that one could sympathize for and it is painful to see children in a harm and the mother's longing to be someone else. The director choses to have a shaky handheld style to convey the chaos and hectic nature of the story around them. The acting was perfect in my opinion especially the mother who longs to be anyone but herself and drifts in and out of her attempts to act like she isn't a mother around David while at other times being very protective of her children. As a viewer it is hard for me to see her children be put in danger and be exposed to adult language and know about things like sex well before the proper age. Story wise for most of the film it felt like the eldest child had to be responsible when the mother was not, until the end when the mother realized that she needed to attend to her kids above her outside relationships.
